Va multumesc pentru aprecieri, dar astept comentariile dupa citirea articolului
Am scris articolul direct in engleza asa ca il voi pune asa cum l-am scris. Engleza mea nu e grozava, dar ma descurc.
Am intrat si eu pe site; unele portiuni sunt inca in constructie.
Articolul l-am scris in graba la solicitarea lui Tomasz acum vreo 4-5 luni, inainte de a intra pe forumul acesta si de a-i cunoaste pe multi cactusisti. Daca unii colectionari cu experienta si realizari in domeniu nu se vor regasi printre cei amintiti in articol ii rog sa nu se supere, nu a fost cu intentie si cu prima ocazie voi remedia situatia in viitor.

Growing cacti and succulents in Romania

Since their discovery and introduction in Europe, the cacti and the succulents had a major impact in European horticulture. They were so different from other plants! For many years they have been the nobleman`s plants, often regarded as the masterpieces of the exotic ornamental plants collections.
Little by little these plants had reached common people and start to spread as house plants. They were introduced in other countries usually by ambassadors, noblemen and their gardeners.
Cacti were introduced in Romania about 200-250 years ago. They became widespread in twentieth century. During the communist regime was not officially forbidden, but this kind of activity was regarded as being bourgeois and cactus and succulent growers were not very liked by the communist activists. In spite of this, the botanical gardens developed beautiful cacti and succulents collections. Among these The Botanical Garden from Cluj-Napoca has a splendid collection, 90 years old with over 1000 species.One can see there flowering size Agave americana, 3 meters tall cereoides, flowering ferocacti, 30 centimeters high astrophytums, hundreds of mature, clustering lithops and many more.
Since 40-50 years ago private collections developed and some of them exist today. Now they are private and institutional collections all over the country. Some of these, which I know about are: professor Petre Dobrota from Braila-has a huge collection with about 4000 species and varieties, sculptor Vida Geza had a big collection in Baia Mare and partial exists today. Dr. Visinescu`s collection in Bucharest has about 60 years old, with many beautiful plants, Dag Panco with cephalium bearing melocacti and many more plants. In Craiova they are many cactus cultivators like ing. Copacescu, Belu and others. In Baia Mare and Satu Mare are several lovely private collections: Nevezi, Rajko, ing. Savu-having cacti and many euphorbias, Tar, Latis, plastic artist Puscas-many mature plants etc., Dr. Lungu from Lugoj , Vasile Onaca- with big opuintias and other species, Ilea Ioan from Cluj-Napoca and many more. Those are mainly "the seniors". Since 1989 Revolution, there is a new wave of young cultivators. One of the best representative is Cristian Cristian from Deva with more than one thousand species. Others are ing. Tamasz Biro, ing. Adrian Popa, ing. Istvan Lörincz, Dr. George Pop, Dr. Cristian Neciu and numerous others.
In 1998 has constitute "A. C. C. Aztekium" an association of cacti and succulent collectors now having almost 100 members. The chairman is Mr. Mircea Savu from Satu Mare. All members pay a taxe each year and they receive the journal, have the possibility to publish articles, have access to informations, seed lists, pots and discounts for their stands at the expositions. The association can be contacted at aztekium@hygeia.sbnet.ro (I hope it is still valuable). The society has a journal called "Aztekium", journal`s editors are Constantin Latis, Nevezi Ioan and Tar Alexandru. A.C.C. Aztekium organize meetings and shows in different cities with sales stands. They often plan visits to cactus collections from Romania and Hungary. The association has close relations with the association from Debrecen, Hungary.
Growing cacti and succulents is definitely a growing hobby here in Romania. Many people love these plants and they know how to cultivate them. The most important impediment is the financial side of our hobby. Building a greenhouse, heating it in freezing winters is not cheap and not everyone can afford. We are a relative poor country, but this will change next years. The economy is growing and this will reflect into families budget. I expect a strong development of this activity into the future.
Nowadays we must work harder, drive faster, our lives are more complicated and we are more stressed. It is important for our emotional and psychically balances to have a happy, harmonious family life. A nice hobby- as growing cacti and succulent is- will make us happier. Let`s try it!

Multumim Cristi pentru articol! E interesant si prezinta destul de corect peisajul cactusist autohton - desigur fara culorile lui specifice si triviale - care vor fi bucuria turistului...

Pe de alta parte este o initiativa laudabila - ar fi bine ca revista in cauza, mai ales daca este si in engleza, sa ajunga sa aiba calitatea revistei pe care o publica cehii si care este de referinta.

Iata-ma devenit - gratie tie - internationalizat si in zona slava... in curand vor pleca la impuscat lupi de la Atlantic la Vladivostok!... (Ma pregatesc deja sa plac in Polonia sa le iau cremele colectiilor si pe urma sa-i las muritori de foame!!)
